Some say blondes have more fun and that would be true for this brownie recipe! The taste of the bananas comes through perfectly and the chocolate chips give just enough chocolatey goodness and texture! Adding cocoa powder would be overpowering. Instead, this recipe for banana brownies comes together with just two ripe bananas in ten minutes or less, even when your kids “help”!

Kids Baking

Baking is a life skill and a great activity to do with your kids! There’s no need to rely on boxed baking mixes. In fact, reading the recipe, measuring, mixing, setting the oven, and the whole process helps kids learn about math, food safety, kitchen safety, responsibility, and healthy eating – YES even if it’s brownies! We are going to eat treats anyway, and with homemade you know exactly what’s in them and the hands that prepared them.

Ready for them to come out of the oven! Did you do this as a kid? I sure did, especially when brownies were involved.

These banana brownies are so tasty they don’t need frosting. They’re SO tasty, they’ll be gone before breakfast if your family is anything like mine! (true story) That had *nothing* to do with me cutting small slivers off the edge every time I went into the kitchen – it doesn’t count if it’s not a square piece. #fact

This is a piece. Any edges I ate do *not* count.

I hope this recipe becomes a family favourite for you like it is for me!

Ingredients

Cream together:

  • 3/4 cup softened salted butter
  • 2/3 cup white sugar
  • 2/3 cup brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla

Stir in:

  • 2 mashed ripe bananas

Next add and stir in:

  • 1 cup flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt

Finally stir in:

  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 package milk chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Grease a 9 x 13 baking pan with butter and spread batter evenly.

  2. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 - 30 minutes until they are brown at edges, jiggly but not shiny. Brownies appear underdone but firm into perfect brownie texture as they cool

  3. Quickly have a big square before your kids get at it, then cut off slivers throughout the day and pretend like you're not having more.

  4. Lasts 12 hours tops unless you have amazing willpower.

Hey, I have two ripe bananas, a 9×12 pan and a BIG hankering to try this recipe. Too bad it’s too hot today to do any baking. I guess I’ll have to wait until tonight, after dinner when it cools off and I won’t have to be in the kitchen for any other reason than to quickly get some ice, or take a pan of banana blondies out of the oven… Thanks for the recipe! I always seem to have bananas quickly approaching their expiration date (I’ve been cutting them in chunks and putting them in a zip-loc in the freezer for smoothies, but this sounds even better!!!).

Well the good news is that they don’t have to bake for long! If I can bake in Houston summer, anyone can bake! LOL You can use your freezer bananas too – give smoothies a break in favour of brownies. It’s about healthy choices. HAHAHA Thanks for reading and commenting! Let me know how they work out for you! xoxo
