Since introducing the idea of a “Core Weekly Wardrobe,” I have put it into practice for two more weeks and counting. In case you’re not following along on Instagram (which you definitely should), I thought you might be interested in seeing how it has panned out…
These were the Week 2 core pieces. And the outfits were…Monday – leopard print top that made people think I was pregnant. It was all I could do NOT to rip it off right then and there. Adios top.Tuesday – Orange Day at school worked out well for me!Wednesday – I used TWO core pieces at once!! Can you do that?!! Of course – do whatever your little ol’ heart desires. The outfit was fine but that blazer just didn’t spark joy. Nice wearing you.Friday’s intended OOTD is on the left but one must embrace school spirit when one is spirited! Happy Jersey Day!
I included all the price details on Instagram if you’re interested. All in all, except for being called pregnant and nixing two pieces from my wardrobe, it was a swell week. Ha! Truly, the core pieces “primed” my outfit each morning which was helpful. I don’t premeditate my outfits so a nudge in a particular direction saved time. There are lots of fashion challenges on blogs and Instagram, and this is another great option for many people – I’ve done them before too! However, I felt the Core approach provided a good balance between structure, predictability and flexibility – sometimes that’s what HARD CORE looks like! Here’s week 3:
Week 3 Core PiecesHow hard is it to make an outfit with a grey cardi? VERY HARD if it’s a Monday, apparently.Tuesday’s outfit and a photo-bombing Berner.Wednesday with Anthro! I tried on a few different options with this Saturday Sunday blazer-cardi but liked how these sage pants provided a consistent tone to the ensemble.
I promised on IG to share a secret about this Anthro piece. Ready????! (Prepare to be underwhelmed.)
This piece had quite a few pulls – I suspect that’s why it was donated. Don’t let that stop you! It’s pretty easy to pull them back through or worst case, snip them off. At thrifted prices, you should be able to still get enough wear out of them to “fix” a quality garment.TA DAAAAAAA! I even pulled that remaining little bit through after snapping this shot.
Which brings me to today, Thursday, as I write! I snapped a few extra shots of today’s look (and it’s still dark when I leave, hence the grainy quality of the photos, mea culpa).
This time with a photo-bombing cat! I wore my $11.90 Theory dress – a little pricey for thrift but so soft, comfy and forgiving and THEORY!! Regular retail would be a couple hun at least. Worn with $10 Clarks booties, $2.80 tweed blazer, $1.40 wood necklace and Edward Scissorhands fingers.
The BEST thing happened today at work! During parent meetings, one parent walked in whom I hadn’t met yet and she immediately declared that she follows The Spirited Thrifter and was wearing thrifted Anthropologie at that very moment!!! So I fell in love.
And then I made her take a selfie with me, ‘natch! Thanks for making my day Emily!Emily’s whole outfit is thrifted except her winter coat!! LOVE LOVE LOVE those jeans! I spent most of the meeting staring at those fab shoes. Jk. (Mostly.) #professional
