I have been having fun this week touring “little” thrift shops for some thrifting and Yelp reviews.  My first stop was the Peacock Boutique, second stop was Bibles for Missions Thrift Store and my third stop was the MCC Thrift Shop.  Unfortunately, that stop was short and not-so-sweet and I ended up leaving without purchasing anything and  I won’t be back.  (There’s where the “spirited” of “spirited thrifter” comes in!)  If you’re curious why, check out my review on Yelp.  Instead of going to the dentist office, I got in my van and drove to the Hope Missions Bargain Shoppe where I knew my son could use the bathroom and I could enjoy a good little thrift experience!

Hope Bargain Shoppe

Not only were there bathrooms, there was also art work and scripture in the bathroom!

I have been to the Hope Bargain Shoppe many many times!  I have scored big and small but always enjoy looking around!

And every time I go, there is a 50% off sale!

The displays might not quite be Peacock level, but there are always nice displays and merchandising.
The displays might not *quite* be Peacock level, but they do nice displays and merchandising – not just racks of clothes!

The very first time I shopped in Hope Missions Bargain Shoppe, there were foreign missionaries shopping to outfit their home and family.  To that end, there are toiletries and pretty much everything you need to set yourself up on a modest budget.  Hope Missions supports our community in many ways including providing meals and housing.  They do good and that is a good reason to shop here!

Vintage fringe leather jacket. Can't recall the exact price but with the sale, I believe it was $20 or under.

I found a few pieces to try on included those vintage printed shorts which unfortunately made me look like a Golden Girl so no photo evidence exists.

Who doesn't need a classic-polka-dot print grey tee?!! Slightly awkward expression due to the fact that I'm doing a wall squat to try and avoid a nostril photo shot by my daughter.

I do find the racks close together and fully loaded, which makes it difficult to browse and find sizes.  The shoppe was more disorganized today than I’ve seen before.  There was the usual good offerings of…

Generally, the prices at Hope Bargain Shoppe are low to fair and there is always a sale it seems!  The range of sizes is more limited than in a larger store despite the full racks – there are great deals to be had but you might have to dig a little harder for them!  I didn’t score any shoes this time (not every stop ends in $3 Coach shoes) and found the shoe rack a bit disorganized.  I hate to “criticize” because some of the best people I know work and volunteer for Hope Missions, so please don’t take my comments as criticism.  This is just more of a traditional thrift shop than some of the big Winners-style thrift shops.  The prices and community value make it worth a stop especially if you live on the south side.  Check out my Yelp review and add your own review if you get a chance to make a thrift-stop, which you should do, tomorrow!
