I was up bright and early this morning…

that just happened to be mere minutes away from a VV Boutique!  So me and the kids popped in for a quick thrift stop!  I am hunting specifically for a pair of black boots and a black/brown cross-body bag and I’ve always got my eye out for pretty dresses!  I struck out on shoes and bags but found a couple interesting pieces…

This plaid dress was $5.60

This GAP blazer was also $5.60. You can just see a bit of the green lining on the sleeves... hmmmm.

When I collected my kids from the toy department, they all whined and begged for little crappy things.  That’s when the happy thrifting tide started turning.  “I don’t like buy-nothing year!” they said.  Insert straight face smiley.  I could not believe after all the Konmari we went through that they still wanted little meaningless toys that don’t spark joy… which gave me pause.  Did the two pieces in my cart spark joy?  No.  They had some merit but ultimately they weren’t what I came for and didn’t add enough to my wardrobe to justify the purchase.  So, we all left, empty-handed.

On the drive home, I shared a mindful moment with my kids: you don’t have to buy something everywhere you stop EVEN if you like it (a lot or a little) or want it (a lot or a little).  Once you’ve worked hard to purge your life of clutter, you think twice about reintroducing clutter – even when it comes in the form of polka-dot blazers and plaid dresses.  These mindful lessons are easy to say, harder to model, but ultimately worth it if my kids take to heart today’s mindful moment!

And now for the OOTD portion of this post! Raspberry cardi $4.50, denim $2.80, white Always Late tee and Miz Mooz boots $7.50.

Wasn't sure if this pretty scarf would work in colder seasons, but pairing it with a contrasting colour seemed to work!

I can't believe it's November and I'm outside with a coat. It's a bit unnerving.

Mindful Moment and an OOTD
Good outfit, great mindful moment that shows my Year of Mindfulness IS changing me and my family for the better!

Your posts make me happy! It’s a bright spot in my day. I can’t remember how I stumbled upon your blog, it must have been Providence.

nice job on your posts and instagram, and I totally hear you on the “mindfulness shopping” after reading the book I can come home with nothing and feel good 🙂

  4. CoryMcInnis thanks Cory!  That means a lot!  We are all getting better at being mindful consumers but still have a ways to go!

Go you! I totally would have brought that plaid dress home, though. That’s the problem with thrifting… Some deals are soooo hard to pass up!
