Since I’m pretty successful with thrifting, I don’t often go to consignment stores as a secondhand shopping option.  But I recently received a gift certificate for Red Pony Consignment Boutique in Edmonton, and happened to have time for a little shopping stop yesterday on my way to Splurge Sorority.  YES I ended up being late.  Now that I’ve stated the obvious, let me share about my Red Pony experience!

Despite the fact that the building is RED I had troubles finding it while zooming past in traffic and trying to listen to Siri, so let me tell you it’s across from the Running Room on 109th St. and there’s not much for parking so be prepared to find street parking a block or two away.

Entry decor... pretty good indication I'm in the right place.

Red Pony is a nice fair-sized boutique!  I liked that it wasn’t jam-packed with merchandise like some consignment stores can be.

Though one might expect high-end labels in a consignment boutique, there was a variety of high and low-end labels including Forever 21, H&M and Joe.  Those pieces would need to be at thrift store prices in order for me to purchase them here considering their regular retail price point.  Luckily, there were plenty of other pieces to try on!

J Crew red cashmere turtleneck - so pretty but oh so tight. There's nothing like a tight turtleneck to make your boobs look ginormous.

I tried on a few J Crew pencil skirts - some were just a smidge too tight and then there was this one. It really wasn't tight but that really didn't matter. So so bad.

I ended up getting these Pilcro Serif legging cords! Anthro brand - WOOT WOOT!
I ended up getting these Pilcro Serif legging cords for $38.  Anthro brand – WOOT WOOT!  They retail for $98 (USD??) so though a small fortune compared to thrifting, a decent price for these perfect-condition perfectly-Nicole pants-for-she-who-hates-pants.
I also scored this Eileen Fisher wool long cardi for half off the ticketed price!
I also took home an Eileen Fisher wool long cardi for half off the ticketed price!  The regular retail price would be around $300 so $31 is a score!

I almost got a pair of William Rast black pants but the pocket was coming off.  I certainly wouldn’t mend them and I can’t allow anything in disrepair to come into my Konmari’d closet, so I left them behind.  The associate told me they normally just return any such garments to the consignee (is that a word?) but would offer me 20% off if I still wanted them (still no).  All sales at Red Pony are final, FYI.

I could not wait to wear my new Pilcro pants so I wore them today! I'm in love!

All in all, shopping at Red Pony was a good experience.  The sales associate was friendly and attentive, there was a good variety of pieces and a good sale.  If it was in a better location, I might shop there more frequently (but for everyone else in the world I suppose it’s fairly central and accessible by bus).  The sale prices were good, regular prices maybe a bit high (and definitely too high on the lower-end brands) but I am used to paying $5 or less so I’m a bad judge!  I’m also cognizant of the seller wanting to get something for the effort of consigning…  In case you’re wondering, I used my gift certificate and other blog-related income to justify cover my purchases outside my regular monthly budget.  Just never mind.    Anyhoo, it was worth it for my new favourite pants!  Check out my review of the Red Pony Consignment Boutique on Yelp then spend some time admiring my pants!
