Last year, I did some exploration around style personalities and though I didn’t land on a definitive personal style term, I gained insight into my preferences and definitely realized what I’m not: I’m not a classic style personality.  I like it for a day here and there, and I like the “classic” pieces… so long as they’re mixed with vintage, colour, accessories or all of the above!  During Black Out Style 2016, I’m exploring what I would consider to be *essentials* for a colourful wardrobe.  So far, we’ve got the mustard cardi, the turquoise necklace and today we’re talking footwear.  Remember how I said I was going to be specific and all that?  Well, I would consider the following to be my number one favourite shoe of a colourful wardrobe

Green shoes instead of something neutral or matchy added interest.
My beloved green pointy flats!!

However, during the great closet Konmari, I finally had to admit that after 8 years of service, they were too worn to wear and I reluctantly let them go.  I’m still working through it but I’ll be okay, thanks for asking.  Since then, I always scan the shoe racks when thrifting, waiting patiently for a replacement.  (OR I might use my splurge money or direct Mr. Style to this post so he knows what to get me for my upcoming birthday.)  In any case, a bold coloured shoe is essential to a colourful wardrobe.  Black or brown shoes and boots are the safe choice for most, but for colourful style personalities, colourful shoes function in the same way – they’re a neutral!  They look good matchy and they look good contrasty and they bring a pop of interest to any neutral palette!  Though I don’t have my number one, I have several other colourful footwear options…

October Thrift Haul

I basically do a whole round of calisthetics to make sure I can wear skirts to work. This one passed the test with flying colours.

Ready to get going!

And here’s what I tried on with my PURPLE outfit today in honour of today’s Tuesday Try: purple power!

My thrifted wardrobe has seen some colourful shoes come and go, and I am always on the lookout for more!  I recently stumbled upon a pair of $8.50 purple suede boots in perfect condition in my size and I had to get them because a) I have no other purple boots exactly like them, b) they’re almost flat and super comfortable, and c) winter is LONG.

They won’t replace my green pointy flats, but they will comfort me until I can find another pair of green flats!

And how about that mustard cardi?! Looks great with purple too!

Purple boots are perfect with a purple dress and a purple scarf for purple day... except purple day at work is TOMORROW.

Oh well, I still looked great in a very purpley kind of way.

In conclusion, for me, green pointy flats are essential for a colourful wardrobe IF I had to choose just one!

But hanks to thrifting, I don't have to!

Everybody needs red shoes! Red sandals, red boots, red winter boots, red flip flops. Red is best!

Agreed – everyone needs them! I have a few red pairs and am on the lookout for more! For me though, my green flats are #1!!
