A few weeks ago, I went to Value Village with my fellow thrift enthusiast Adina of Blue Collar Red Lipstick and we had so much fun we decided to make it a regular occurrence! We’re calling it “Tuesday Night Thrift” and we went thrifting last night to make it official!
We went to the Sherwood Park Value Village for the inaugural Tuesday Night Thrift and had a fruitful evening – no competition involved! Adina scored some beautiful pieces that fit her evolving personal aesthetic and I found plenty of misses and a few hits that fit my scattered eclectic personal aesthetic! First the misses…
I liked this green jacket but it was an average find – and these days with my ample wardrobe, pieces need to be well above average or have great wearability to make it into my closet! #ruthlessSame goes for this dressed-up tee. Nice but nothing special, and sometimes those waistbands are tricky to style.This blazer had potential as an above-average piece but came across more like big bird… which I guess IS above average but not the way I’m looking for!This Sandwich brand skirt also had potential to be special but was meh on. Maybe I don’t like applique type detailing??!As it turns out, sometimes a wrap dress has way too much fabric. And no pockets, so pass.I LOVE this sweater but knew it would be too small for me. I laid on the peer pressure for Adina to try it, certain she’d fall in love immediately, but she refused! Not her colours, blah blah blah (apparently *someone* didn’t love Pretty in Pink and fantasize about having red hair and sewing skills like I did). So I put it on and pouted.But Adina DID love these Valentino sunnies and took them home. This is me trying to act all suave before I handed them over but I just look like RBF.My taste in shoes has been all over the place, in case you haven’t noticed! I was drawn to these Dansko clogs but they were a size too small…However, these Dansko’s were in my size and in new condition! They might not be the most stylin shoes, but they have great arch support and adjustable straps which is exactly what a post-op girl like me needs.In fact, I wore them today and my feet felt great!Not a bad ensemble for Talbots and Dansko!My taste in coats is also all over the place but as soon as I put this on, I knew it would join my collection! Supermarket brand, perfect condition, unique and with a vintage vibe is $9.10 well spent!Adina found this embossed leather Fossil bag and this is how you know she’s a good person: she handed it over to me! I LOVE it and moved all my stuff in the second I came home…Only to find this in the inside pocket! So with the “money back”, it only cost me $18.75! It’s in perfect condition except for one small stud missing off the zipper pull.Adina also found me this red wool blazer! Correction, she found it for herself but it was too big! Which leads me to a practical thrifting tip – go with an expert thrifter who’s not the same size as you! #winwinLastly, I found this printed tunic for $9.10 – I like the colours and the style is very easy for me to wear to work. NOT as a dress, don’t worry; your children are safe. I know I like this piece because right now, as I write, I wish it was already washed so I could wear it tomorrow!

Thanks to some spectacular heels, we were even even in height! (Now to find a dress that will turn me into a size 4!)
So much fun! Now, like I said, Adina and I plan to make Tuesday Night Thrift a regular event – not every week because pesky jobs and kids and life make that impossible. But when we settle on a date and location, we will let you know, just in case, like us, you are *fresh out* of everything and would like to join us! Stay tuned!

I know!! She’s got willpower, sticks to her guns about pieces and whether they fit the style she’s honing! (I am not that good!)
