I had not one but TWO dress wearing occasions this past weekend – a dinner party Saturday night and a Houston Moms Blog party Sunday afternoon. There were some things in common between both events – great people, great food, great conversation – and whether it was the old dress or new, I am 100% sure I wore the CHEAPEST outfit in the room for both!
Old Dress
First up, my “old” dress: my one-and-only DVF silk wrap dress that I don’t wear very often but was perfect for a dinner party!

Does that happen to anyone else? Wearing a piece begets wearing it more??!
It was a lovely night and we stayed out till almost midnight because we live on the edge in our mid-forties.
New Dress
By new I mean, new *to me* for eight whole dollars! I love the jewel-toned dress I thrifted last week for the Houston Moms Blog partay…

Worn with raspberry cardi $4.50, suede booties $11.90, earrings I found in a purse I thrifted and
my absolute favourite necklace by She Does Create WHO COMES TOMORROW.

The Houston Moms Blog party involved meeting new contributors, getting new head shots and getting group photos with our team and exec team.

(er, eh-hem, speaking for myself only, Blessed *Assisted* Blonde)
Two thrifted dresses, two completely different looks, two amazing nights! What I spent on my outfit doesn’t really matter (though I WIN FOR CHEAPEST OUTFIT)… What I really want to convey is that you don’t have to spend big bucks and/or resort to fast fashion in order to look great!
Would YOU consider thrifting an outfit for your next big night out?!
xoxo Nicole

Love DVF!! I’ve gotten a little too curvy (read fat) for my DVFs. Saw a great post on Ask Suzanne Bell from about a year ago that had videos of different ways to wrap a DVF so that it can be worn when perhaps it would be too tight if wrapped in the conventional way. I was so happy to see these videos because now I can wear these beautiful dresses and not have to feel guilty about not being the same size that I was when I bought the dresses.
THANK YOU for alerting me to this excellent resource: https://asksuzannebell.com/how-to-wear-a-dvf-wrap-dress-as-a-tunic-top-or-cardigan/ That truly opens the doors for me and makes me want to have more! I do think wrap dresses work even when they are snug. (er, at least I hope so) K must go look at Poshmark and find more!
I love both outfits! I am partial to the last one though, so vibrant and cheerful! I feel energized just by looking at it on a gray winter day…wish we had some sun and warm weather where I live but that won’t happen soon lol. Imo the burgundy boots would go well even with the first outfit, maybe with some chunky burgundy jewelry or a purse.
The mom blog event sounds so much fun and you ladies all look so stylish!
For a night out on yeah I’d wear some cool stuff from vintage or consignment stores. Jewelry too!
You are right! The burgundy boots would work with the DVF dress! Thanks!! The colourful dress is a bit more my style… still hoping to find a colourful DVF one day in the thrift store! I love vintage too – it’s a great way to ensure that NO ONE else will have what you’re wearing! Thanks for reading and commenting!
I love love love the colorful dress and how you styled it with the jewelry, the purple cardigan and shoes. The colors, cut, and everything about the dress is gorgeous and it looks great on you.
Why thank you for the kind words! The best part was that it came up at the thrift store exactly when I needed it! Thrifting mojo is REAL!!!
