This is the building to look for! I say that because I went to the wrong place first so do note the address: 1135 Highway 90A W Missouri City, Texas 77489
Second Mile is a non-profit organization that serves to help “Fort Bend County residents in poverty and crisis by providing basic needs and opportunities to take next steps in their lives.” Second Mile instills hope through relationship, and that undercurrent is palpable the moment you pass through the doors! “Our approach is to develop relationships of dignity, honor and respect. Through these relationships, people in need renew hope and develop as leaders.” Y’all. THIS is reason alone to support Second Mile by thrifting at The Opportunity Shop.
I took Mary and Elisa along with me on this little adventure!
After driving around and getting a bit lost, we finally found the shop! Elisa was on her way in before I could nab her for the obligatory selfie!
As you walk down the hall, you will see this nice display on the right pointing the way!
You’ll see this sign at the end of the hall and to the left is the thrift shop!
The shop is not huge but it is full of great items with lots of variety in different sizes.
The prices were great as it is but there was also a sale going on!
There is a second room with furniture and household items.
Head through the glass door to find the home goods!
It was nicely staged! I felt like I was in someone’s living room!
The prices on everything were more than reasonable.
I was most interested in the clothing, ‘natch, and found plenty to try on!
Agnes and Dora slouchy cardi that I snatched right up for $2 and am in fact wearing right now at my scrapbooking retreat (where I am blogging… same same)
I wanted this Magaschoni (Nordstrom brand) mustard sweater but it was TOO SHORT.I wanted this Boden teal polka dot top but it was too small.I wanted this Talbots pink polka dot blazer for $3 and GOT IT!
CK sleeveless chambray for $2? No question!Navy polka dot top for $2? Absolutely!I want an orange sleeveless top but this one left nothing to the imagination about my lack of ab work. This floral top had a vintage vibe and I might have got it had I known about the sale but it didn’t make the cut. #thriftregretI wanted this dress to work but I looked like a tennis player in it.Same with the yellow one. Too bad.I saw this silk dress and envisioned it belted and chic but the arm holes were so very small. Wah.I thought my green dress dreams were going to come true but this one was too big!I thought my cobalt dress dreams were going to come true…Sigh.Tiger’s eye bracelet for one dolla. I have no bracelets so this was essential. ;PSpotted this Astros tee on my way out and nabbed it for $2. When in Houston…
I also nabbed silk Ralph Lauren striped lounge pants for fifty cents on my way out…
And I wore them again after contending with my daughter’s lice AGAIN.
All in all, I spent about $15 which I consider GREAT value for all the fun I had, for all the pieces I bought, and for supporting a worthy cause. You should definitely add The Opportunity Shop at Second Mile to your “MUST THRIFT” list when in Houston!
Sounds like you all had a lot of fun there, but now I want to hear more about your scrapbooking retreat! What did you wear? What did you do? What did you make? What did you drink??? How is your scrapbook coming along? Inquiring minds want to know…
You inspired me to write a post about the retreat which will be coming sometime soon… hopefully not until I get to my next retreat! lol I’ll dish it all. xoxo
