I’m spending February exploring different ways to style my wardrobe pieces and inquired what YOU would like to see featured. Turns out many of us are still looking for inspiration for “basic” pieces like boyfriend jeans, graphic tees, maxi dresses and chambray shirts. I’ll do my best to heed the call, starting with graphic tees.

There are as many ways to style a graphic tee as there are graphic tees! What is a graphic tee, anyway? Basically, it’s any t-shirt with a statement or image that is meaningful to you. A graphic tee is personal and that’s what makes it so inherently cool. Here are four basic ways I wear graphic tees using a tee gifted to me by my sis for Christmas…

WITH A BLAZER

A blazer is the easiest way to take your graphic tee into just about any setting. Mixing casual and classy elements is the styling trick at work here! You can also wear a plaid shirt, cardi or denim jacket as finishing layer – keeping in mind they work best with opposites (plaid shirt with dress pants, denim jacket with a pencil skirt, cardi with dressy crops and heels, and so on).
WITH A MATCHING SKIRT

Pull a colour from your statement tee and match it to a skirt, any skirt! Midi, pencil, circle, a-line, maxi, tulip, pleated – whichever you fancy! One caveat – it looks best tucked, at any size.

WITH A CONTRASTING SKIRT

Nothing says “I have personal style” like mix-not-match. When you let go of matching, you rely on your sense of what makes you feel good which lets your inner aesthetic shine! I almost always prefer a contrasting look because it is almost always more interesting. You can include other neutral elements to “ground” your outfit like I did here or just keep the colours contrasting from head to toe!
I *hope* it goes without saying that graphic tees ALSO look fantastic with any solid-coloured skirt or denim skirt. Don’t forget some accessories to polish off your look!
WITH JEANS

Jeans and t-shirts are like peanut butter and jelly, or if you’re me, wine and cheese. They are made for each other! For a casual look, throw your graphic tee on with your favourite denim, flats or sneakers and your favourite pendant. Add a cozy cardi if it’s snowing. Needs must.
There you have it – 4 simple, easy-to-duplicate styling ideas for the graphic tee I know you have sitting in your closet!
