In case you haven’t noticed, it is December FIFTEENTH. That’s halfway through the month, past the point of no return, no catching up. Is it just me, or is this particular December flying by? I LOVE December – I get a break from work, I have time with my kids, I celebrate the birth of Christ, I spend time with family and friends, and I wear dresses all month long. Dressember is not just about wearing dresses – it’s an international movement that raises awareness about and money to fight against human trafficking, and to advocate for freedom for all people. And here’s the part where I suck: this year, I wasn’t keen on participating in Dressember. I was away from home for the first four days of the month and forgot to pack enough dresses…. but lo and behold there was a pop-up sample sale at my hotel and I bought (without realizing it, prior to December 1st) just enough dresses to tide me over. A divine dress nudge?! I think so.
I returned home just in time for a FREEZING cold spell – we’re talking 8 days of indoor recess combined with a full moon. Armageddon, people. Each day, I choose out my dress, choose out my tights/leggings, my scarf, my boots and just haven’t been that inspired, if I’m being honest. I am swamped by work and Christmas preparations, I didn’t have time to go thrifting with my gal Adina for Tuesday Night Thrift and haven’t captured all my OOTD on camera….
Does all this sound like a lot of first world whining to you, because it sure does to me. For every day that I’m a little uncomfortable and a little cold in my dress, I know that there are women in dire circumstances who will benefit from the 1.5 million dollars raised by women wearing dresses even when they don’t feel like it.
Forgive me my attitude and let’s all do better in loving people in our communities and worldwide! If you would like to donate, click on the Dressember link – every dollar matters. If you would like to know more, watch the TEDx talk by Dressember founder Blythe Hill. It’s not too late to join in, donate or eh-hem change your attitude! Stand for freedom in your dress!
