I love helping people have a successful thrift shopping experience, and when spontaneous shopping plans work out despite mutually busy schedules, the thrifting victory is all the sweeter!  And so it was on Friday night when I met Karen at Value Village for a fast and furious thrift trip to update her professional wardrobe in two hours or less!

As usual, we closed down the store!

Karen has several great pieces in her wardrobe already.  How do I know that?  Because she brilliantly made a Pinterest board of pieces she already has and loves as well as a style board of looks she likes!  These helped guide our thrift-eye and make quick decisions about what to try and what to edit from the cart.

Pretty pastels and classic prints made ...
Pretty pastels and classic prints were easy to say yes to!

Karen works in a “business casual” environment and needs pieces suitable for a range of work-at-home days to client-meeting days.  She is a baby-wearing bike-riding YEG-supporter with a ladylike-vintage-classic style vibe!

There is something interesting about every top Karen found and each can be worn alone or dressed up with a blazer.

That mustard beauty in the corner is Anthro-brand perfection!

Rustled Air Sweater
I think it was very big of me to encourage Karen to get this rather than dissuade her and get it myself. #maturity #cryingontheinside

Karen found 3 blazers that add pizzazz to her existing black and grey options…

Classic camel, fun purple wool and show-stopper floral.
Classic camel from Blu’s, fun purple wool and show-stopper floral – blazers needn’t be boring!

Pants aren’t the easiest to thrift when you’re in a rush and Karen already has basic black work trousers, so we blitzed through several skirts then settled on a black pencil skirt and linen flare skirt – with these two alone Karen could make almost a month’s worth of work outfits with her tops and blazers…

Who needs pants?!

Karen and I agreed that DRESSES ARE AWESOME and she totally scored in the dress department!

It was HARD work to narrow the selection down to 5!
Some of us shop for months for the perfect striped dress.  Karen scored hers in 2 hours.

It was hard work to narrow the dresses down to these 5 but, again, each has interesting details and can be worn on its own, with a blazer or cardi or with that Anthro knit over top!

Karen looks great in dresses!
Karen was made for dresses!

The middle stunner is not exactly for work but looked AMAZING and is designer Nanette Lepore whose dresses retail for $300- $450 US!!  My philosophy is: thrift the dress and the event will come.  (Who wants to throw a thrifted-dress-show-off party?!!)  Lastly, I found a few necklaces that will complement Karen’s tops and dresses and put the finishing polishing touch on her outfits!

Necklace trio
Karen also agrees with me that NECKLACES ARE AWESOME.  Clearly kindred spirits!

In total Karen scored 21 pieces at an average cost per piece of $6.74 or $9.12 including my fee and a 30% off filled stamp card!  “The fast, the furious and the frugal Friday night thrift adventure” would be the perfect tagline for our fun evening!  It was a pleasure to shop with you, Karen, and you look amazing!!  Getting dressed for work will be way more fun now and if you decide you don’t like that mustard top or that designer dress or that striped dress or anything, my closet is ready, willing and waiting!
