I had a hard time getting dressed this morning.  Some mornings, I have both too many and not enough clothes and the end result is me running around in a robe while packing backpacks, making breakfast, feeding the dog and madly searching Pinterest.  It’s very relaxing.  I finally settled on a recently-thrifted staple, a raspberry cardigan for $4.50 from Value Village…

Initially, I thought this look was a bit boring.  I was surprised by the lack of Pinspiration featuring a raspberry cardigan!!  I know it’s a cute sweater but there weren’t many cute pins.  Maybe Pinterest thinks people already know what to do with a colourful cardigan??  And maybe most people do know the cardigan basics… BUT how can you take a basic fashion formula (dress + cardi + scarf) and make it stylish?  Somewhere on Pinterest I read a quote about taking your outfit and adding an unexpected spin or interesting twist.  Well, that’s what I did this morning.

Initially I had on some tame plain earrings.  I instantly felt better when I swapped them out for these gorgeous neon-jade spike earrings by She Does Create.

I left the house in matching navy shoes and almost turned around for these green pointy flats.  It was a small change, but it made a big difference in how I felt in my outfit.

A gold purse goes a long way!
Average and interesting are miles apart!

IRL I lugged my heavy work bag around today, but I liked how my Pinspiration brought in gold accessories instead of a more expected neutral choice.

My arm party (from right to left) consisted of a thrifted piece ($2.10), Accessorize hinged cuff from my closet, and a customizable piece from local Devon shop Heavens to Betsy.

This won’t go down as one of my favourite outfits, but my thrifted raspberry cardigan did teach me a lesson: an average outfit is one stylish spin away from being interesting!
