Every August, I start thinking about back-to-school clothes.  It’s like I’m 13 again and have all my saved-up babysitting money and all I want is a sea-foam green silk blouse…  Good times.  I’m not sure if sea-foam green silk has made its way back to trend status, but I do have a few Fall trends on my thrifting radar…

1. Evergreen and pumpkin spice – I’m not talking about candles or coffee!  I’m talking about colours!

2. Long vest – a nice finishing-layer alternative to blazers or cardis!

3. Long sleeve maxi dress – I doubt if this will translate into work-appropriate attire but I like the notion and would like to add one to my dress collection!

4. Metallic skirt – I have a metallic skirt that’s just waiting to be styled with ankle boots and long sleeves… if I could only get my foot into ankle boots!

5. Fringe – this is one of those trends that has been around for a while and keeps cropping up in interesting places, like on shoes or scarves….

6. Statement earrings – statement necklaces have had their day, it’s time to give earrings a chance to shine!  Bigger is better, and the more unique the better!

7. Patent – I bought a pair of patent shoes but hadn’t thought much of other patent pieces until I started perusing the fashion pages.  It could be cool or it could be cougar.  Time/thrifting will tell.

8. Plaid (still)  – does plaid ever go out of style?  I’m pleased to have picked up a unique scalloped hem plaid top recently and will keep my eye out for other plaid pieces!

9.  Pink and mustard (French’s) – these colours have been on my thrift-hunting list for a while, so I’m pleased that Vogue finally caught up with me. 😛

10. Velvet – I’m seeing tons of velvet in the fashion pages which makes me glad for every velvet piece I own!

I can look in my closet and find almost every one of those trends!  So this Fall, I’ll be doing just that – shopping my closet and styling the trends in new ways.  Trendy does not necessarily mean regular retail new – I think of “trendy” as meaning newly inspired!  What trends will you be trying this Fall?!!
